Opening Tea

64 ACJC students and charity guests from St Luke’s Eldercare @ Kebun Baru Centre, Thye Hua Kwan Seniors Services @ Taman Jurong, Ang Mo Kio Family Service Centre and Brahm Centre attended the Project Cheer 2019 Opening Tea.

The underlying theme for Project Cheer 2019 is mental health through social activities within the community. A guest speaker from Brahm Centre shared tips on how to cultivate Mental Resilience, this would also be timely for the students’ term examination period.

This Opening Tea allowed students and charity representatives to have a deeper understanding on Project Cheer by giving them more opportunities to engage directly with the charity representatives in an informal setting.

Actual Sessions

During the one-week March school holidays from 18 to 22 March 2019, 109 ACJC youths planned and facilitated five Project Cheer sessions, engaging a total of 124 children and 131 elderly. Two TCTF Scholars led their respective classes in designing creative activities for e.g. station games of relay races, puzzle games and healthy eating, Chair Zumba and memory games.

“The seniors enjoyed the session very much. To them, the students were just like their grandchildren and they were happy to share about their lives and how they spent their golden years with the younger generation. Some seniors even picked up new technological skills from the students.

Closing Tea

Prior to the Closing Tea, the students had a reflective session, chaired by both TCTF and ACJC. The purpose was to gather feedback and evaluate the students.

All these culminated in the Closing Tea, which was an excellent time for sharing and recognition of all involved. Each of the student groups were awarded according to Planning, Reflection, Execution, Engagement, Resourcefulness and Crisis Management.

Many students shared in their reflections that they acquired the hard skills of programming, planning and experienced the ‘heart skills’ too, where they implemented the values in action.

The charities were also invited and acknowledged accordingly.
